PLAYING OFFENSE

As corporate stewards many of us are conditioned to play defense. We have a bias for changing in small increments and improving at a steady pace. Looking ahead however, playing it too safe will probably be the safest predictor of stagnation and gradual decline.

If you’re not convinced, close your eyes for a moment and fast forward to, say, 2030.

A future shaped by founders that don’t have to deal with legacy technology and organizational structures. A future of startups leveraging abundant capital and attracting the best and brightest to their challenger brands and disruptive business models. A future defined by platforms, AI, blockchains, IoT, robotics and nanoscale engineering.

Now open your eyes again. Re-read your strategy. Recall your last management off-site. Are you thinking about and preparing enough for the world of tomorrow?
